Regular, Real Training: Short Video for Lifeguards

Categories:

When an aquatic event occurs, we often see that the lifeguard’s first instinct is shock, denial, and disbelief. In this video, we discuss the importance of lifeguards engaging in regular, real training to build their auto-pilot response.

We encourage you to use this in your next staff meeting or send it out to your staff ahead of their next shift. We have also included 2-3 discussion questions below to facilitate conversation about how to apply the topic to guards’ everyday work.

Discussion Questions

  • Are you confident that if an emergency happened today in your water, you would respond immediately?
  • How has your training helped you gain confidence and the skills you need to respond to an emergency?
  • What plan will you make today when you walk on to scanning duty to better prepare you to respond to an emergency?
